Why does cedar wood oil using with oil immersion lens?

Oil immersion is one of the objective lenses in the microscope. it magnifies the image 100 times. when a slide examine under this lens, a drop of cedar wood oil placed on the slide to increase the numerical aperture and to remove the air between the lens and slide that will make the image visible and clear.
